PASTA Whether it’s fusilli, capellini or just plain old spaghetti, pasta is perfect for a healthy diet, if you don’t smoother it with unnecessary fat. Here’s a quick low down on how to get the utmost pleasure from your pasta.

  • To put it simply, pasta is a dough of flour, perhaps with a little olive oil for flavour. Pasta is a generic name, which covers the vast number of shapes of dough. There are almost 600 different varieties of commercial pasta all over the world. Pasta has been a staple part of the diet of Italians for centuries.

  • Pasta is a power house because it’s packed with carbohydrates, the body’s main source of fuel. Most pasta is enriched, too, making it a good source of thiamine, riboflavin, niacin and iron. But perhaps the best thing about pasta is that it does not have too much of calories, fat, cholestral and sodium.

  • Spinach, carrot, tomato and other vegetable pasta contain only small amounts of the vegetable, so their nutritional value is about the same as other pastas.
